(TR04) (ID Forum) Fighting Scams and Mass Fraud: Protecting Accounts and Combating Stolen or Synthetic Identities

Tuesday, March 31, 2026 4:50 PM to 5:50 PM · 1 hr. (Europe/Paris)

Information

Fraud has reached unprecedented levels, evolving from isolated scams into a global industry run by organized criminal networks and powered by AI. Europol and the European Public Prosecutor’s Office estimate that cross-border fraud now costs the EU tens of billions of euros annually, with VAT and digital payment scams up more than 40% in 2024. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission also reported over $12.5 billion in consumer losses last year — a 25% increase.
As synthetic identities, deepfakes, and AI-driven impersonation multiply, traditional verification systems are struggling to keep pace. Digital identity has become both a prime target and a key defense. This session explores how next-generation solutions from AI-based document forensics and passive liveness detection to behavioral analytics and security engineering are redefining the fight against fraud and helping restore trust in digital transactions.
